About Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura, one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, is a testament to the island's remarkable civilization that flourished for over 1,300 years. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features magnificent dagobas (stupas), including the towering Ruwanwelisaya and Jetavanaramaya — once the third tallest structure in the ancient world. The city is home to the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest historically documented tree in the world, grown from a branch of the original Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. Ancient monasteries, intricately carved moonstones, and vast palace ruins transport visitors back in time.
