About Wilpattu National Park
Wilpattu National Park, located on the northwest coast of Sri Lanka, is the island's largest and one of its oldest national parks. Spanning over 1,317 square kilometers, Wilpattu is renowned for its unique 'villus' — natural sand-rimmed lakes that dot the landscape and attract a wealth of wildlife. The park is one of the top destinations in the world for leopard sightings, along with sloth bears, elephants, spotted deer, and over 200 bird species. Unlike the more crowded Yala, Wilpattu offers a more serene and exclusive safari experience through dense jungle, open scrubland, and beautiful coastal areas. The park's remote location has helped preserve its pristine wilderness.
